The internship will be based at the AXA Group Risk Management (GRM) department.
AXA GRM brings together multidisciplinary high-level teams composed of actuaries, engineers, PhDs and financial analysts, based in Paris (65 people), Zurich (15 people), Madrid (20 people) and New York (5 people).
The modelling of natural catastrophe (CAT) risks is a key activity within the AXA risk management framework that impacts business decisions at both local and Group levels.
Modeling accurately the impacts of natural events is a great technical challenge with the data collection of 30 million of policies, the parallel use of multiple modeling solutions, and finally the assessment of almost 50 country x peril levels of risk to define the adequate level of reinsurance protections necessary to ensure solvency and earning protection.
Within the P&C department, the intern position belongs to the CAT & Reinsurance team (12 FTE with high level of expertise in CAT, 4 IT developers and 5 interns) which is organized in three excellence centers (Operations, R&D Modeling and Reinsurance).
The intern will join this dynamic team dedicated to the monitoring and the modeling of Natural Hazard risks borne by the company.
Role and Responsibilities :
The accuracy of the CAT modeling result is strongly impacted by the quality of the input data (geographical localization, building characteristics, defense systems ).
The objective of the internship is to collect, transform and implement external databases within the modeling framework to improve the accuracy of the natural hazard risk assessment.
The steps that are envisaged are :
treatment of satellite images to recognize and map flood defenses )
According to the advancement of the project, it will be also possible to work on the operational production of the CAT risk analysis which is performed on a yearly basis to compute the reinsurance capacity.
Beyond the possibility to acquire knowledge on how CAT risk is assessed and modelled within a leading insurance company, the intern will have the opportunity to be immersed within R&D activities and to work within an environment of technical excellence
Profile Requirements : The candidate, at the License 3 / Master 1 level, will have a specialization in geosciences, computer science, mathematics or equivalent (engineering schools ) with strong analytical skills and the ability to evolve in a diverse technical environment :
