With approximately 10,000 team members globally, the Company’s products are sold in more than 110 countries in a wide range of distribution, including surf shops, skate shops, snow shops, its proprietary Boardriders stores and other Company owned retail stores, select department stores and through various e commerce channels.

We are looking for our new Head of Retail Buying for EMEA. Based out of our regional headquarters in Saint Jean de Luz in France and reporting to the Head of Retail Operations, you will be responsible for providing buying direction to all store banners within the Boardriders O&O retail business.

In this key role you will manage a team of retail buyers and will coordinate the region’s buying strategies in accordance with market needs and will be responsible for maximizing the business’ topline and gross margin performance across the store portfolio through the appropriate selection, delivery, and in conjunction with Retail Planning, the inventory management of merchandise.

You will be a key contact point for all internal brands and departments such as Brand Marketing and Product Development to ensure the needs of the Retail business are met and will work closely with the brands to deliver on set strategic and financial targets, while ensuring a steady flow of seasonal, consumer relevant product- and brand stories.

Coming from a retail buying background with a multi-brand fashion-, sports-, outdoor- or lifestyle retailer, you have an equally strong strategic-

and commercial mindset with an in-depth understanding of brick-and-mortar retailing and merchandising. You are customer focused with experience from omni-

channel retailing and work well cross-functionally and understand what is required to excel in a matrix-driven organisation.

RESPONSIBILITIES :

  • Manage the brand- and category mix across store banners, working closely with the brands to strategically align on role and direction within the store network
  • Responsible for the product performance and buying process for O&O bricks-and-mortar stores across the region. Sign off on final retail buys for the region
  • Accountable for training and development of the Retail Buying team
  • Work closely with the Retail Planning function on seasonal product quantification. Oversee and approve inventory positions.
  • Recommend promotions, markdowns and liquidation when needed

  • Consolidate regional roll-up of product needs and ensure that such needs are communicated clearly to the relevant global and regional brand and product development functions
  • Maintain close relationships with the store-, country teams and support departments to ensure a high level of day-to-day customer service and prompt resolution of product-related issues
  • Ensure that global product and marketing initiatives are adopted and implemented across the region
  • Ensure compliance of all buying processes and procedures and recommend improvements when required. Approve exceptions to business rules in line with corporate guidelines.
  • Escalate as needed to the relevant superiors.

  • Own specific projects and business decisions to improve retail performance, service and relationships
  • REQUIRED EXPERIENCE / SKILLS / EDUCATION :

  • 5+ years of retail buying & merchandising management experience, ideally from an international multi-brand environment selling apparel, footwear or accessories in the sports, outdoor, lifestyle or fashion industry.
  • Solid understanding of fashion trends and product as well as extensive retail management experience is essential
  • Extensive people-management experience, with the ability to set and deliver on objectives through other people
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Positive attitude with the ability to switch between strategic, tactical and operational tasks when required
  • Organised with strong numerical, analytical, problem-solving and strategic thinking abilities. Able to work independently and to perform under tight deadlines while keeping attention to detail.
  • Solid computer knowledge, proficient with Microsoft Office suite (ex. Excel, Powerpoint)
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills required, other European language(s) would be an asset, especially French
  • Bachelor or Masters degree in Fashion Management, Retail Merchandising, Strategy or similar.
