Primary mission

Positionbelongs to the P&C Group Risk Management team which is organized in severalexcellence centers (Actuarial & Business Reviews, Cat Modeling & Reinsurance,Economic Capital).

Thecandidate will report to the Group Head of P&C Actuarial & Business Reviews.

TheGroup Risk Management is a strategic department within AXA dealing with themost sophisticated P&C challenges and influencing strategic developmentdecisions in P&C operations of a leading international insurance andreinsurance company.

Thecandidate will have to play a strong role in the achievement of the teamobjectives, notably maintaining the Group’s reserves at an adequate level,modelling all P&C Lines of Business’ risks (except natural events) andcoordinating / conducting in-depth reviews of entities sponsored by the GroupManagement.

Thecandidate will interact with entity’s top management and in particular with theHeads of Actuarial, Underwriting, Claims and Finance departments.

Core activities of the team

Defining / updating Group P&C reserving policy and performing regular reviews.

Provide the Group withopinion on the Technical Reserves.

Regularly conductin-depth reviews (IDR) of P&C entities to review the local underwriting,the claims management processes and the reserving.

Perform specificTechnical Reserves review on a particular portion of the business whosecomplexity or materiality may require a Group opinion.

Support other FinanceGroup teams in handling matters dealing with reserves and profitability forP&C operations (e.g. M&A, IFRS17, ).

Identify strengths andweaknesses in the Group P&C reserving process in order to better engineerand forecast the profitability of P&C business.

Set-up and update theReserving Standard, Solvency 2 Policy, guidelines and ensure their consistentapplication within the Group.

Operations(underwriting, claim management, pricing), governance and control

Contribute to thedefinition of the Group Standards and Solvency 2 Policies for underwriting,claims management and reinsurance.

Lead the ProductApproval Process (PAP) which is applicable group-wide to portfolio review andnew business launch.

Elaborate Group RiskManagement’s opinion on risks and initiatives submitted to the GroupUnderwriting Committee (GUC) approval.

Develop Risk Managementcommunity’s second line of defense for P&C’s business areas. This means giving direct support to localentities by taking on new actions at the pre-P&C operation stage and at thepost-operation stage as regards 2nd level control.

Ensure Group RiskManagement’s P&C Business expertise.

Groupmodelling tools and Risk Appetite

Define and supervisethe P&C exposure collection In the Clymene Group Reporting tool for localentities’ P&C lines of business exposure (except Natural Catastrophes).

Lead and develop themodelling of the Group P&C risk for all P&C business (e.g. Liability,Cyber, ) except Natural Catastrophe risk.

Hence deduce the reinsurance cover tobe purchased at Group level in line with Group Risk Appetite.

Suggest and discuss theGroup Risk Appetite limits for the various P&C lines of business, to be setby the Group Audit Risk & Compliance Committee (ARCC).

Prepare and update theP&C Risk Appetite to be validated quarterly by the Group FinancialCommittee.

Control local entities’risk appetite complies with the Group Risk Appetite framework.

AXA XL integration

Followingthe acquisition of XL Group, AXA has transformed itself from a predominantlyLife & Savings (L&S) focused company (with a risk profile very muchlinked to financial market risks ) to a majority Property & Casualty(P&C) Company.

Thedeal creates the world’s largest P&C commercial lines writer anddramatically extends the P&C business scope where the team operates with :

  • Newgeographical areas of which the US market, the largest in the world
  • New Lines ofbusiness in P&C insurance, especially in the Specialty Lines segment
  • New type of underwritingwith the Assumed Reinsurance segment.
  • Theteam is directly involved in making AXA XL integration a success on technicalmatters, ensuring that

    The Group P&C riskappetite framework is appropriately set and extended to include the legacy XLGroup business

    The Group underwritingrisk is identified, controlled and framed within the new enlarged scope

    The governance is adjusted.

    Technical and professional skills (technical expertise)

  • Solid background in all Insurance and Reinsurance business aspects
  • Technical P&C actuarial expertise in Reserving, Underwriting, Pricing and Modelling

    Experience in large property / casualty commercial lines, specialty risks and assumed reinsurance is a strong asset.

    Ability to build, use and understand various actuarial models. Knowledge of the data analytics techniques is an asset.

  • Knowledge of insurance accounting, reinsurance and audit techniques.
  • Good understanding of Underwriting, Claims and Reserves assessment connections.

    Soft skills and competencies

  • Ability to build good working relationships, good communicator, flexible.
  • Ability to present key results in a factual concise format, communicate and persuade members of entities’ Senior Management.

    Ability to work and lead projects within a network organization (project management skills)

  • Ability to coordinate several teams of senior underwriting and claims experts.
  • Ability to lead interviews with members of Senior Management.
  • Speak and write good English (must have).
  • Open to different cultures and to travelling.
  • Autonomy, organization, flexibility and capacity to adapt to new situations such as to carry unplanned workloads and a keen ability to enhance / organize team working practices.
  • Management skills

    No direct FTE management but transversal management skills needed and ability to coordinate team experts works.


    At least 5 years of experience in P&C actuarial fields, with significant experience as P&C Actuary.
