Entity and activity description
The GM&T WBU delivers technological solutions (molecules, equipment and services) to support the new markets of energy transition, maritime logistics and scientific exploration, in order to accelerate Air Liquide sustainable growth.
To support the energy transition, GM&T brings environmentally friendly solutions to the clean energy market with hydrogen energy and Bio-
Natural Gas for vehicles, refrigerated transport using nitrogen, but also the treatment and injection of Biogas into the energy grid as a local power source.
As a player of the deep tech sector, GM&T commercializes technologies dedicated to Space, Aerospace and scientific exploration.
GM&T also supplies gases for players in of the maritime sector and provides logistics for cryogenic transportation by sea of value added molecules, such as helium.
GM&T employs 1,800 people world-wide and generated a 2017 revenue of €372 million.

The Director, Systems will manage the engineering delivery of all membrane and non-membrane based systems in GM&T US. This is accomplished by a team of project managers, engineers, and third party fabricators for the portfolio of engineered systems in GM&T US.
This primarily consists of membrane based biogas, air gasses, helium, and hydrogen systems as well as new products as developed.
The Director, Systems provides overall direction and program management to assure that engineering and design leads as well as third party fabricators perform safely, on time and at cost on an assigned projects.
This person also has responsibility for developing tools to monitor and measure engineering and fabrication progress, provide near real time cost information and predict problems that may impact customer delivery .
This includes status reporting and document control of engineering, procurement and fabrication deliverables on all projects assigned to the systems team.
He / she will also maintain and promote a focus on AL’s end product whether engineering, procurement, fabrication, or construction -
or any combination thereof.
Duties and responsibilities
Accountable for the overall engineered systems portfolio including cost competitiveness and delivery time.
Responsible for the overall relationship and management of third party engineering and fabrication service providers, working within the framework of Air Liquide’s supply management team and delegation of authority.
Manage overall safety, budget, schedule, quality and technical integrity of each project in the assigned portfolio.
Assign project managers, engineers and other professionals to projects and manage overall project budget, including but not limited to engineering labor hour budget, monitoring budgeted vs actual engineering hours on a regular basis
Actively manage project load for Air Liquide team and assign load as required to third parties to maintain flexibility.
Ensure the systems engineered and fabricated within the team meets contractual obligations, are delivered on time, and are executed within budget.
Develop standardized product offerings.
Evaluate engineering tasks and workflows to eliminate unneeded hours or equipment and focus on value added engineering, consolidating, and reducing variability in BOM’s with suppliers.
Coordinate with other project entities in GMT and in AL to plan and schedule resources and ensure projects are adequately staffed to achieve schedule requirements.
Develop systems of communication between sales and engineering groups to ensure workload is planned and a forecast of engineering and fabrication requirements is available for at least 1 yr into the future.
Ensure contractual requirements are well understood by the teams and are incorporated into the engineering design and deliverables.
Coordinate internal and external design reviews, HAZOPs, etc.
Support construction and participate in project commissioning as required.
Ensure effective communication between systems engineering and technical sales.
Develop strategy for continuous improvement.
Other duties, as required, in support of growing the US GM&T business.
Required Qualifications :
BS in engineering required, mechanical engineering preferred, MBA preferred
Professional engineer registration strongly preferred
15+ years of relevant engineering experience in the LNG, natural gas, refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, or industrial gases industry
10+ years in a project manager or engineering manager or operations manager role
10+ years experience in design, fabrication, construction of industrial gas or membrane systems.
5+ years of direct management experience of engineering professionals.
Mastery of typical technical and commercial requirements associated with smaller ($1-5MM) capital project investments in the LNG, natural gas, refining, petrochemicals, chemicals, or industrial gases industry
Strong understanding of the major design engineering disciplines, i.e., Process, Civil / Structural, Mechanical Equipment, Piping, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls
Strong understanding of continuous flow chemical / physical processes typical of hydrocarbon processing, hydrogen production, and / or air separation
Effective leadership skills, communication skills, both written and verbal, with superiors, colleagues, and individuals inside and outside the Company
Effective computer skills; Microsoft Office Suite, Google G-suite, Oracle, AutoCad and other Company and discipline specific software applications
Preferred Qualifications :
Knowledge in petrochemical process design
Willingness and ability to respond to urgent issues outside normal business hours
Willingness to travel up to travel 30% of the time and up to 60% of the time during short-duration, busy periods
