General Context

Power electronics are taking an increasingly important place with the emergence of renewable energies and the new technologies of direct current power transmission.

Power converters are at the heart of this system, and inside these converters, the basic element to realize the conversion function is the power switch (IGBT, MOSFET, ).

The breakage of a switch causes partial or total loss of functionality of the converter, which leads to a loss of revenue for the operator.

To avoid unplanned stops, some electro-technical systems are already monitored : their state of health is estimated and their remaining useful life is predicted (gas analysis in a transformer, vibration of a motor, etc.

However, as of today, no system is available to monitor the health of power switches and predict their remaining life.

This is why a research activity is taking place in SuperGrid Institute on this topic and why an IGBT module aging bench is being designed.

Associated with the semiconductor characterization means of SuperGrid Institute and the Ampère laboratory, it will be possible to follow the drift of the electrical parameters of these components with aging and to deduce diagnostic and prognostic methods for IGBTs.

Objectives / Missions

  • Design, realize and debug electronic boards
  • Coding and development of the control software (automatic code generation with Matlab / Simulink)
  • Participate in the component characterizations (IGBT static characterization, double-pulse dynamic characterization, thermal impedance characterization)
  • Participate in the development of the aging bench : Validation of the converter and its environmentSupervision of the testbench
  • Follow the aging tests
  • Candidate Profile

    Master or engineering school student in the last year of his / her studies.

    The student must have a taste for experiments and be multidisciplinary : he / she will make use of multiple theoretical skills (knowledge of semiconductors, packaging, analog and digital electronics, coding, control, supervision ) but he / she will also have to able to put these achievements into practice (assembly, measurements, etc.).

    He / she must be curious, autonomous, rigorous, proactive and have the analytical spirit. Fluency in English and French is essential.
