Entity and Activity Presentation
The Digital Factory is the department of the Air Liquide Group's Innovation & Development Department in charge of Digital transformation.
La Digital Factory is missioned with keeping Air Liquide at the forefront of strategic areas : data, design, user research and software engineering.
This is ensured by internalizing and onboarding new Digital & IT skills while developing our footprint in digital ecosystems (e.
g. Techstars). La Digital Factory supports both the Digital Fabs and the World Business lines (WBLs) / Corporate Functions Data Officers :
Digital Fabs are the key partners for the WBLs and corporate functions for their respective digital roadmaps. They gather representatives from WBLs, Clusters, Digital & IT, support functions and R&D in a Fab Operational Committee to provide a holistic view on digital initiatives within the Group and govern the Proofs Of Concept (POCs) for new digital solutions.
They drive successful POCs for future global digital solutions, transition them to Minimum Viable Products (MVPs) and accompany the product lifecycle in alignment with the CIO organization.
Inside World Business Lines (WBLs) and Corporate Functions, the Data Officers implement the global data strategy, with the objective to make data a core asset.
They steer data value creation, define data domains, own the data roadmap and deploy new roles in the WBLs, corporate functions, hubs and clusters responsible for data quality, alignment of data models , replication of use cases and adoption of data platforms.
Inside La Digital Factory, the Head of Data Governance & Security is responsible for establishing and maintaining visibility, trust, confidence and compliance in Air Liquide Group’s data through the development and implementation of an enterprise-wide data governance program and strategy.
The Data Business Architect will report to him.
The Data Platforms managed by GDO (Global Data Operator) contain all the data, as well as all the transformations and modeling necessary to create value through the different use cases built for our businesses (dashboards, data science, apps.
This data is a very important source of value for the Group. One of the Data Program’s objectives is to make this data increasingly accessible to the organization through a catalog, analysis tools, common Core data models and meta-data (attributes) that enable the data to be characterized, while maintaining the right level of security.
This Data strategy was launched for several years and is getting strong momentum : more than 12 WBL and Corp functions data officers were nominated and they identified 70+ Data Domains Managers in charge of defining the expected data structure in Core Data Models .
More than 60 Core Data Models are currently being defined and implemented in Data Platforms. Hundreds of Local data owners are being identified to work on data quality and security.
To accompany and strengthen this Core Data Model definition and deployment effort, a Data Business Architect position is created.
Missions and Responsibilities
The Lead Data Modeler is the design authority for the Core Data Models of the Group. She / he is responsible for :
Define and communicate Core Data Model methodological framework : Define or update the methodologies, guidelines, process, standards, templates, and supporting tooling to define and maintain the Core Data Models (in WBL / Corporate Functions) and locally Extended Data Models (in Hubs / Clusters).
Animate a Data Modeling community of practice.
Design authority : When Data Officers, Data Domains Managers or Hub Data Owners create or update a Core / Extended Data Models, the Data Business Architect validates the compliance of the data model with applicable methodological framework and consistency with other existing Core Data Models.
Assistance to data governance stakeholders : The Data Business Architect provides assistance to Data Officers / Data Domains Managers in the definition of Core Data Models in terms of methodology, expertise and assistance by contributing during the definition of new core data models or new versions of core data models as part of business use cases.
Depending on the volume of activity needed to support the Data Officers / Data Domains Managers, he / she selects and onboard a portfolio of contractors to deliver this assistance, via a packaged service offering.
Security / Privacy needs : he / she contributes to the specification of security and compliance needs of data in Core / Extended Data Models, per Group's digital security and privacy policies.
The Data Business Architect plays operationally the role of Digital Solution Owner of the Data catalog / portal. He / she steers the catalog / data portal project for the Group, from the business needs specification, and its deployment in the organization.
He / she manages and monitors its usage and adoption and ensures that the datasets are properly documented by Data Owners.
He / she steers the catalog s features evolutions.
Review alignment with Core Data Models : He / she defines and implement a method to periodically review 1 / the consistency of Core data models across data domains, 2 / between Core Data models and locally Extended data models and 3 / he / she works in close interaction with GDO’s Data Manager to define and implement a method to regularly evaluate the conformity of the data present in the data platform with the core / extended data models prescribed by the WBLs / Corporate functions.
He / she implements, with data governance stakeholders, regular communication on the content and completeness of the data platform (by WBL, by domain, by geography, etc.).
Competencies and Profile
Must have :
Expertise in conceptual and logical data modeling : Entity Relationship Diagrams, UML Class Diagrams and Data Dictionary.
Enterprise Architect, possibly TOGAF certified (from the Open Group), Familiar with the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK, from DAMA)
Data or information management (data relationships, data quality standards, processes and proficiency with data analytical and quality tools).
Data analysis skills.

Other teams of La Digital Factory (data, design, user research and software teams) for project scoping, launching running, steering and learning;
GDO teams, and in particular with GDO’s Data Manager, in charge of the compliance of technical implementations of Core Data Models in Data Platforms.
